Io sono il Capataz is an Italian adventure film from 1950, which, with Renato Rascel in the lead role, tells a comedic story about the Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa . The film directed by Giorgio Simonelli was not shown in German-speaking countries.

action

Because of his slender stature, Uguccione cannot find work. When he meets the famous revolutionary C6 one day, that changes: Together with his friend Erasmo, he is flown to Parazuela, where he is supposed to personify the dictator Rascelito Villa, who commands the revolutionary troops occupying the capital. In this role he is a puppet in the hands of the ministers. Convinced that people love him, he played the game for a while without complaining.

When he realizes that in reality the people of the country hate him and that rebels under the leadership of Rosa de Fuego are even planning an attack on him, Erasmo manages to convince the insurgents who have brought the two friends into their power that it is not Rascelito, but his twin brother Pancho, who has come to fight his evil relative. With the help of his knowledge of secret passages in the palace, he can now lead the ministers as Rascelito and the rebels as Pancho to a decision in which he acts for the people. He is celebrated as a liberator but renounces power to live with Rosa del Fuego.

criticism

Alberto Albertazzi said that the comedian Rascel, who was brilliant on stage, had not yet reached maturity as a film actor, which made him very dependent on the great or even less originality of the material; in this case there remains an irrelevant, if not bad, contribution that he cannot save.

Remarks

In contrast to the critics, the film was very well received by the public and grossed 421 million lire in Italy .

Sophia Loren played a small role as the dictator's secretary.

The film was released again in a slightly different form in 1954, now under the title Ritorno il Capataz .
