Ioan Șișeștean

Ioan Șişeştean (born June 11, 1936 in Șişeşti , Județul Maramureş ; † April 12, 2011 in Baia Sprie ) was the Romanian Greek Catholic bishop of Maramureş .

Life

Ioan Șişeştean studied alongside his work in the city library, as an assistant teacher and factory worker theology and was secretly ordained a priest on March 13, 1972 by the Bishop of Maramureş, Ioan Dragomir . In 1990 he became a pastor in his home village Șişeşti. With the reopening of the Greek Catholic Theological Institute "Alexandru Rusu" in Baia Mare , he became a professor of dogmatic theology .

On July 20, 1994, he was elected Bishop of Maramureș by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church and confirmed by Pope John Paul II . The episcopal ordination on September 11 of the same year donated him the archbishop of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia , Lucian Mureşan ; Co- consecrators were Alexandru Mesian , then coadjutor bishop of Lugoj , and Virgil Bercea , then auxiliary bishop in Făgăraş and Alba Iulia.
