Ira Wilhelm
Ira Wilhelm (born June 11, 1962 in Lahr ) is a German translator and literary scholar .
Life
Ira Wilhelm is the daughter of a German and his wife from Curaçao . She and her four siblings grew up bilingual with German and Dutch as their mother tongues . Ira Wilhelm studied comparative literature , German and English at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . She has been working as a freelance translator since 1994 ; she lives in Berlin today .
Ira Wilhelm translates novels , poems and non-fiction books from Dutch into German . In 1994 she received a translation grant from the City of Munich , and in 1997 a study grant for the Hansian Goethe Prize from the Alfred Toepfer Foundation .
She is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ.
