Chimonobambusa quadrangularis is a type of bamboo from the genus Chimonobambusa with square, 3 to 8 meter high stalks and 8 to 29 centimeter long blade blades. The distribution area of the species is in China , Taiwan and Japan .

description

Chimonobambusa quadrangularis is persistent and forms leptomorphic rhizomes . The woody stalks grow upright and reach a height of 3 to 8 meters and a diameter of 1 to 4 centimeters. The internodes are bluntly square in cross section and 8 to 22 centimeters long. It sund hollow, bristly under the knot with hair growing on small nodules. The nodes with side branches are thickened, otherwise the same width as the internodes. The nodes near the base of the stalk show a ring of short root spines. The scar of the vagina is corky and initially forms a ring of reddish yellow, felty and small, bristly hair. Three side branches are formed horizontally to each other for each bud. The straw sheaths are greenish, shorter than the internodes, paper-like, hairless and have raised leaf veins, purple-brown transverse veins and a ciliate border. Auricles and ligaments are absent. The blade of the blade is triangular or subulate, 3 to 5 millimeters long and sloping. Two to five leaves are formed per branch. The leaf sheaths are leathery, hairless and the edge is ciliate at the tip of the sheath. There are sloping bristles (oral setae) on the shoulders of the vagina. The ligule is short, membranous, truncated, hairy underneath and ciliate. The stem-like connection to the leaf blade is about 1.8 millimeters long. The leaf blade is elliptical to lanceolate, 8 to 29 inches long and 1 to 2.7 inches wide. It is pointed, paper-like, initially hairy on the underside and bald on top. The leaf base is wedge-shaped. Four to seven pairs of secondary arteries are formed per leaf.

At the base of the inflorescences are permanent, their upper increasing bracts present. Per inflorescence rarely only one usually two to four 2 to 3 centimeter long spikelets with two to five florets are formed. There are one to three lanceolate, 4 to 5 millimeter long glumes per spikelet . The lemma is green, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, paper-like and five to seven times veined. The palea is about the same size as the palea. The cavernous bodies are narrowly ovate, the stamens 3.5 to 4 millimeters long. There are two stigmas per flower .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

Distribution and ecology

The natural range is in Japan, Taiwan and China. In China, the species grows in the provinces of Anhui , Fujian , Guangxi , Hunan , in the south of Jiangsu , in Jiangxi and Zhejiang .
