Iridovirus is a genus of giant viruses ( Nucleocytoviricota , NCLDVs) belonging tothe Iridoviridae family , Betairidovirinae . The natural hosts of iridovirus are insects.
As of February 2019, there are only two species in this genus that have been confirmed by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). This is the type species Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 (IIV-6). In biting flies , IIV-6 usually causes a covert (inapparent) infection that affects fitness.
construction
The virus particles (virions) of the genus Iridovirus are enveloped and have icosahedral and polyhedral geometry ( T = 147 symmetry). The diameter is 185 nm .
Genome
The genome is unsegmented and linear with a length of approximately 213 kb . It codes for 211 proteins .
- In Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 the exact genome length is 212,482 bp, 468 proteins are predicted to be encoded , and the GC content is 29%.
Propagation cycle
The replication of the viruses is nucleocytoplasmic (belonging to the group of NCLDV ). Entry into the host cell occurs through the attachment of the viral proteins to receptors on the surface of the host cell, which causes endocytosis . The replication following the DNA strand-displacement model ( English DNA beach displacement model ). The method of transcription is based on DNA. The exit from the host cell occurs through lysis
Systematics
The classification of the genus Iridovirus as of February 2019 according to ICTV is as follows:
- Family Iridoviridae
-
- Subfamily Betairidovirinae
-
- Genus iridovirus
-
- Species Invertebrate iridescent virus 6 (IIV-6, type species) alias Chilo iridescent virus (CIV)
- Gryllus bimaculatus iridovirus (GbIV)
- Species Invertebrate iridescent virus 31 (IIV-31)
In addition, the following members have not yet been classified according to ICTV:
- Species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 2 " (IIV-2)
- Species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 16 " (IIV-16)
- Species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 23 " (IIV-23)
- Species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 24 " (IIV-24)
- Species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 29 " (IIV-29)
such as
- Species " Armadillidium decorum iridescent virus "
The species " Invertebrate iridescent virus 1 " (IIV-1) previously assigned to this genus has been removed from it and currently (February 2019) has the status of a proposed species of the related genus Chloriridovirus .
