Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler

Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler (* 6. August 1925 in Leipzig , † 3. October 2016 ibid) was a German painter , graphic artist , font and book designer.

Life

Irmgard Kappler completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftswoman in Leipzig from 1940 to 1943 and worked as a partial designer until 1948.

From 1948 to 1952 she studied at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art . Her teacher was Egon Pruggmayer . Then she was commissioned to teach at the Institute for Art Education at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig until 1957 . At the same time, Horlbeck-Kappler was employed at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art from 1953. In 1968 she was appointed professor and head of the calligraphy , decorative design and book design classes at this university . In 1985 he retired .

Your burial place

Starting in 1957, Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler initially designed the paperbacks for Reclam Verlag Leipzig and, together with her husband Günter Horlbeck, redesigned the so-called C series with individually designed covers. For the 1963 reconstruction of the normal series of the universal library , she developed a font solution with different colors for the individual literature groups with a special series as a continuation of the C series. Your reconstruction of the Reclam paperback books won an award in the 1965 competition for the “Most Beautiful Books of the GDR”.

Study trips took her to Poland in 1965, to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1978 and 1980 and to Paris in 1983 .

In 2004 the Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler Foundation was established at the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig. She was married to the painter and graphic artist Günter Horlbeck . Both graves are located in the south cemetery in Leipzig.
