Irmgard Karner (born February 20, 1927 in Breslau ; † August 23, 2014 ) was a German chess player .

Chess successes

Irmgard Karner won the German women's championship in Bremen in 1964 . Two years earlier, she was third in the 1962 German Women's Championship in Eckernförde .

She was runner-up in each case in 1965 when Ottilie Stibaner won, and in 1970 behind Anni Laakmann in Lauterbach (Hesse) . In October 1968 she was fourth at the 20th German Women's Championship in Fürstenfeldbruck , which Ursula Wasnetsky won.

Chess Olympiads

Irmgard Karner participated for Germany at the Chess Olympiads in the years 1966 in Oberhausen , 1969 in Lublin ( Poland ) and in 1972 in Skopje ( Yugoslavia ).

Senior Championships

Irmgard Karner played chess well into old age.

She achieved third place at the German senior championship in 1996 in Friedrichroda . In 2000 she became German senior champion. In July 2002 she was third of the women at the German senior championship in Freudenstadt . In 2003 she took part in the senior women's world championship in Bad Zwischenahn , which Tamar Chmiadashvili won.

Others

Irmgard Karner was a long-time member of SC Starnberg. Her best Elo rating was 2210 in January 1990.

In 1966 she received the silver needle of the Bavarian Chess Federation.
