Irmgard Karwatzki

Irmgard Karwatzki (born December 15, 1940 in Duisburg , † December 9, 2007 in Mönchengladbach ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

From 1982 to 1987 she was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Youth, Family and Health , from 1987 to 1989 at the Federal Minister for Education and Science and from 1994 to 1998 at the Federal Minister of Finance .

Life and work

Irmgard Karwatzki was the daughter of a Duisburg port worker. After attending primary school , Irmgard Karwatzki completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked as a commercial clerk. In addition, she attended the higher technical school for social work , which she finished as a state-recognized social worker (grad.). Then she was a consultant at the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ) in the diocese of Essen and from 1971 to 1976 a consultant at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences North Rhine-Westphalia (KFH NW) .

She died of a heart attack shortly before her 67th birthday .

Political party

Irmgard Karwatzki had been a member of the CDU since 1965 and was a member of the state board of the CDU of the Rhineland from 1975 .

MPs

From 1975 to 1977 and from 1979 to 1990 she was a member of the City Council of Duisburg .

From 1976 to 2005 Irmgard Karwatzki was a member of the German Bundestag . It always moved into the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Public offices

From October 1979 to June 1983 she was the third mayor of the city of Duisburg.

On October 4, 1982 Irmgard Karwatzki was used as Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister for Youth, Family and Health of Chancellor Helmut Kohl led government appointed. After the federal election in 1987 , she changed to the Federal Minister of Education and Science on March 12, 1987 in the same function and left office on April 21, 1989 on the occasion of a cabinet reshuffle.

After the Bundestag election in 1994 she was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Finance on November 17, 1994. After the 1998 Bundestag election , she left the government on October 28, 1998.

Social offices

Since 1999 she has been a member of the management board of the Caritas Association and the supervisory board of the bank in the diocese of Essen eG .
