Ironcollo was a small town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Ironcollo was the second largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Quillacollo in the province of Quillacollo of the same name . Ironcollo is located at an altitude of 2607  m on the western bank of the Río Liriuni , which flows from the slopes of the Cordillera of Cochabamba into the basin of Cochabamba and formerly formed a two kilometer long lake directly north of Ironcollo, which was due to the population pressure in the valley of Cochabamba has since been drained. With effect from the November 2012 census, Ironcollo is no longer listed as an independent village, but is now part of the city of Quillacollo .

Ironcollo is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands.

Ironcollo is seventeen kilometers west of Cochabamba , the capital of the department, and four kilometers north of Quillacollo , the administrative center of the province.

The 1,657-kilometer Ruta 4 highway runs through Cochabamba and Quillacollo and begins in the far west on the Chilean border at Tambo Quemado . It leads across the country via Quillacollo , Cochabamba and Villa Tunari to Santa Cruz and ends in the southeastern part of the country on the border with Brazil at the city of Puerto Quijarro .

Due to the historical distribution of the population, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population. In the municipality of Quillacollo, 55.8 percent of the population still speak the Quechua language - despite the urban transformation .
