Isabel Kleefeld (* 1966 in Düsseldorf ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Isabel Kleefeld studied journalism , theater studies and politics at the Free University of Berlin and social and economic communication at the Berlin University of the Arts (HdK) .

From 1992 to 2000 she worked as an assistant director for various German cinema and television film productions with well-known directors such as Detlev Buck , Sönke Wortmann , Oliver Hirschbiegel and others.

In 2001 she directed the television film End with Funny for the first time. In 2005 she was awarded the Bavarian Television Prize for directing Das Gespenst von Canterville , and in 2007 the Grimme Prize for writing and directing Arnies Welt . Two Grimme Prize nominations followed for Under Suspicion : A New Life and 2015 for Beyond the Ocean, as well as the nomination for the Prix Europa for the thriller Im Netz , which was awarded the Gold World Medal at the New York Film Festival in 2014. In 2018, Aufbruch in die Freiheit received the Producer's Prize at the Hamburg Film Festival, in 2019 the German Television Prize and the Golden Camera, the International Abu Prize for best television film and the Director's Prize from the German Academy for Television.
