Isak Collijn

Isak Collijn , complete: Isak Gustaf Alfred Collijn (* July 17, 1875 in Halmstad , † March 28, 1949 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish book historian , incunabula researcher and imperial librarian.

Live and act

Collijn studied from 1893 at the University of Uppsala and was here in 1902 with a dissertation on Les suffixes toponymiques dans les langues francaise et provencale Dr. phil. PhD. In 1905 he became a research assistant ( amanuens ) at Lund University Library and then in Uppsala. From 1916 to 1940 he headed the Swedish Royal Library as the Reich Librarian . From 1922 he was a member of the Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies and from 1924 of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . Since 1936 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

Collijns life's work was the distortion of all Swedish incunabula in several catalogs ( Uppsala University Library in 1907, Diözesanbibliothek Linköping 1909, Royal Library in 1914, Municipal Library Norrköping 1924) and the Swedish National Bibliography up to and including the year 1600 ( Sveriges bibliografi intill år 1600 ), which by Gustaf Edvard Klemming (1823-1893) and A. Andersson continued the retrospective national bibliography ( Sveriges bibliografi, omfattande tiden 1530-1600 ). During his work, he found several prints from the Baltic Sea region that were previously unknown. Collijns published his results in numerous articles. He did research on Saint Birgitta of Sweden and was editor of Acta et processus canonizacionis beate Birgitte and Birgittinska gestalter (1929) from 1924 . From 1914 Collijn was the editor of Nordisk tidsskrift för bok- och biblioteksväsen . He was a member of the society for typology of the 15th century and of the commission for the complete catalog of incandescent prints . From 1927 he worked in the International Library and Bibliographical Committee and represented Sweden at several library congresses.

He was married to the actress Ellen Appelberg (1878-1960).
