Isingerode is the name of a desert in the district of Goslar between the cities of Bad Harzburg and Goslar .

history

The village was founded in 1018. That year it was first mentioned as Isyngerode . Other names are 1138 Isiggerode and 1197 Isingerode . Another historical spelling is Ysingerode .

geography

The desert is located northwest of today's Harlingerodes . The source from 1827 describes the position as being in the “Old Harzburg” area, which means that the desert must have been in the former Duchy of Braunschweig , since Goslar was part of Prussia at that time . The fact that Oker never belonged to the former Bad Harzburg office (it was an independent town until 1972) and is not explicitly mentioned in the description ultimately restricts the position to the urban area of Bad Harzburg. To the north and west of Harlingerode are the Steinfeld and the Kalte Feld , the Oker grazes the Feldmark in the northwest.

etymology

The name Isingerode is derived from a Saxon short name "Iso" or "Isi", which goes back to the designation "īsana", from which both attempts to derive from the Old Low German word root "īsarn" (iron, compare r in English. Iron ) as well “Īs” (ice) must be considered. In the Wolfenbüttel district there is a namesake between Schladen and Wolfenbüttel , who is also called Isingerode , but has not fallen into disrepair. The ending -ingerode is indicative of a wave of cleared settlements in the 9th and 10th centuries that were created in the northern Harz foreland.
