The bristle shed ledge or bristle moor rush ( Isolepis setacea ) is a species of the sour grass family (Cyperaceae). It is widespread in the Old World . It is sometimes used as an ornamental plant.
description
The bristly scale ledge grows in clumps or dense mats as an annual or herbaceous plant that lasts only a few years and reaches heights of usually 2 to 10 (rarely up to 30) centimeters. It forms creeping rhizomes . The straight or slightly curved stem is stem -round with a diameter of only 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters. The leaf blades are flat or rutted and only up to 0.5 millimeters wide and up to 9 centimeters long.
The up to 3 centimeters long bract of the inflorescence continues the stem, stands upright and can later be slightly curved. The apparently lateral, head-shaped inflorescence contains one to four (maximum up to ten) spikelets. The spikelets are egg-shaped with a length of 2 to 3 millimeters and a width of up to 2 millimeters and contain 10 to 40 flowers . The husks are glabrous, oblong-ovate, 1.3 to 2.1 millimeters long and 0.6 to 1.2 millimeters wide, brownish or purple, with about seven nerves and a broad, green keel. The flower contains one to two stamens and three stigmas .
The squeezed triangular nut has convex sides, is 0.5 to 1.2 millimeters long and has a short spiked tip. It is ribbed alongside and delicately striped across; their color is gray-brown to red-brown.
The flowering period extends from July to October.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The distribution area of the bristly scaled ledge includes Europe (except in the extreme south and north), Africa, West and Central Asia with Siberia, India, China, also Australia. It is also introduced in North America.
In Central Europe it occurs in the low mountain ranges and in the Alps over silicate rock only up to about 1200 m, here it is rare, over lime it is absent almost everywhere. It occurs scattered in the Central European lowlands east of the Weser , but west of it it is rare.
The bristle scale ledge likes to grow as a pioneer plant on wet, moderately acidic sandy or peat soils. It prefers the banks of ditches in raised and intermediate moors, but it also goes into low, wet littered meadows or on sandy forest paths that do not completely dry out even in summer. Occasionally she appears here as one of the first settlers on the still bare ground. It is a characteristic of Stellario uliginosae-Scirpetum setacei in the Juncenion bufonii sub- association of the Nanocyperion association .
The bristly scaled ledge is spread by water birds and waders, and it is found, in otherwise favorable location conditions, preferably along the great bird routes.
Taxonomy
This species was in 1753 under the name Scirpus setaceus by Linnaeus in Species Plantarum first published . Robert Brown established the genus Isolepis in 1810 , of which it is a type species . Other synonyms for Isolepis setacea (L.) R.Br. are: Isolepis gracillima (Kohts) Nyman , Isolepis lenticularis Nees ex Boeck. , Isolepis pleurocarpa Hochst. ex CBClarke , Isolepis saviana Link , Isolepis setacea var. aberdarica R.W. Haines & Lye , Mariscus setaceus (L.) Moench , Schoenoplectus setaceus (L.) Palla , Scirpus gracillimus Kohts . It used to be placed in the larger genus of the cornices ( Scirpus ), but is now mostly placed in the genus Isolepis .
