The Israeli acute paralysis virus abbreviated IAPV (too German about Israeli acute Bienenparalyse virus ) is a combined with the Varroa mite occurring virosis of the honey bee and is considered a possible cause of bee colonies dying massively occurring during the winter season 2006-2007 in the US, which as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is called.
Currently, most of the information comes from the Colony Collapse Disorder Working Group , which essentially works at Pennsylvania State University . Their preliminary report showed some patterns but did not arrive at clear conclusions. Most recent research has been conducted by Ian Lipkin from the Center for Infection and Immunology at the Mailman School of Public Health, Diana Cox-Foster from Pennsylvania State University, Jay Daniel Evans from the US Department of Agriculture's Bee Research Laboratory, and Nancy A. Moran from the University of Arizona show a statistical relationship between the occurrence of the Israel Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) and the death of bees.
The virus was discovered in Israel in 2004 and is believed to have been introduced into the USA by bees from Australia . In Australia, this virus did not cause any significant colony losses, as Australian bee populations have not yet been weakened by the Varroa mite .
