The Israman is a sporting event that has been held annually in January / February since 1999 in the triathlon over the long distance (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and half distance in the city of Eilat in the southern Negev , a desert landscape in Israel .
In December 1999 the first long-distance triathlon was held in Israel and there were 26 athletes at the start. In the second event in the following year, 20 athletes started over the long distance (Israman 226) and 40 in the half-distance race. In 2001 only the half-distance race was held.
In 2006, after a four-year break, two half- and long-distance races were held again. In 2007 there was only one half-distance race. The course record has been held by Gilad Rotem from Israel since 2010 with 9:24:40 h - although the course has been changed over the years and the times are only partially comparable.
In 2013, 1,100 athletes from 17 countries started. The Czech Petr Vabroušek won the competition ahead of Bert Candel and Marc Pschebizin in 10:22:38 h. In 2014, 1200 athletes from 26 countries competed here.
In 2016, Bart Candel was able to successfully defend his title from the previous year on January 30th and in the women's category, the victory went to Antonina Reznikov from Israel, who started on the half-distance last year and finished third there.
The German Till Schramm won the long distance race in 2018 with a time of 9:39:20 h.
Route
The 3.8 km long swim course leads as a multiple circuit along the Red Sea.
The 180 km bike route leads through the surrounding area and the Arava Valley.
The final marathon takes place on the streets of the seaside resort of Eilat and the surrounding area.
