István Barta (born August 13, 1895 in Álmosd , Hungary , † February 16, 1948 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian water polo player .

life and career

Barta first took part in the Olympic Games in 1924 when he finished fifth with the Hungarian national water polo team in Paris. Four years later he reached the final with the Hungarian team in Amsterdam and only lost there against the team from Germany 2: 5 and took silver. Another four years later, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the Hungarian team retaliated for this defeat and beat Germany 6-2 in the decisive final game. Hungary became Olympic champion and Barta won his first gold medal together with his teammates György Bródy , Sándor Ivády , Olivér Halassy , Jozsef Vértesy , János Nemeth , Márton Homonnay , Alajos Keserű , Miklós Sárkány and Ferenc Keserű .
