István Zádor

István Zádor (also: Stefan Zádor ; born January 15, 1882 in Kikinda ; † May 23, 1963 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist .

Life

Zádor was born in Nagykikinda, which at the time of his birth still belonged to Hungary (today to Serbia ). He studied at the Budapest Academy , then also in Paris and Florence . Study trips also took him to England , Germany , Italy , Belgium , Holland , Poland , Russia and the Middle East .

At the beginning of World War I , Zádor was drafted into the Joint Army as a reserve officer . He became company commander of a field company of the Honvéd Infantry Regiment No. 49 and took part in the campaign against Serbia . In November 1914 he was wounded, which probably led to his acceptance as a war painter in the art group of the Austro-Hungarian war press quarter . As such, he first worked in the front sections of the 4th Army in Galicia and Volhynia and in 1916 in Constantinople . From September 1916 he was a liaison officer and art group leader in the 3rd Army in Galicia, and from 1917 on the Isonzo Front .

In February and March 1918 in Bucharest he portrayed all the delegates to the peace negotiations, and from April to June 1918 he led an artist group to the Ukraine as far as Odessa .
