Julia Maria Dan

Iulia Maria Dan (born 1987 ) is a Romanian opera singer who specializes in soprano . From 2015 to 2018 she was a member of the Hamburg State Opera ensemble . She has been a member of the soloist ensemble of the Semperoper in Dresden since the beginning of the 2018/19 season.

life and work

Iulia Maria Dan completed her vocal studies with Maria Slatinaru-Nistor at the National Music University in Bucharest and was able to win several prizes in singing competitions. In 2011 she made her debut as Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto at the Opera Națională Bucureşti and was accepted as a member of the opera studio at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and in 2013 she was a member of the State Opera. She sang a number of smaller roles in Munich, such as the little vixen in Janáček's Clever Vixen and the Nano in Jenůfa or the servants in Simone Boccanegra and The Woman Without a Shadow , but was also given a number of interesting tasks - Papagena in the Magic Flute , the Frasquita in Carmen and the Gianetta in L'elisir d'amore . In August 2014 Iulia Maria Dan made a guest appearance as Aminta in Mozart's Il re pastore at the Verbier Festival , with great success. The role debut in the title role of Massenet's Manon at the Graz Opera in April 2015 was just as satisfying .

In August 2015 the singer was engaged as a member of the Hamburg State Opera , where she was able to immediately take on important roles. In her first season in Hamburg she sang Rosalinde in the Strauss opera Die Fledermaus , the Mozart roles Countess Almaviva and Fiordiligi, Tatjana in Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin and Agathe in Weber's Der Freischütz . For the 2016/17 season there are role debuts as Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème and as Helena in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream

In the summer of 2016, she was able to delight audiences and press at the Bregenz Festival as Ophelia in a long-lost Hamlet opera from 1865 - in Franco Faccio's Amleto . Her partners were Pavel Černoch , Dshamilja Kaiser and Claudio Sgura . It staged Olivier Tambosi , it conducted Paolo Carignani .

Iulia Maria Dan also sang in concerts in Bucharest, Gdańsk, Milan, Modena and Munich. In 2010 she performed the soprano solo in the world premiere of Salbe - Monodrama for Soprano and Orchestra by the Romanian composer Felicia Donceanu in Bucharest.
