Ivan Putski , bourgeois Joseph Bednarski (born April 21, 1941 in Krakow , Generalgouvernement ) is a former Polish professional wrestler and strength athlete . Bednarksi is married and has two sons, one of whom, Scott Putski, also works in wrestling. Putski was WWF World Tag Team Champion and has been a member of the WWE Hall of Fame since 1995 .

Career

Bednarski was born in Poland. As a small child he came to the United States with his family . They settled in Texas , where Putski later began his wrestling career.

Big time wrestling

On February 9, 1970 Bednarski, under the ring name Ivan Putski , was allowed to defeat Team Brute Bernard and Missouri Mauler with Jose Lothario and hold the NWA American Tag Team title. In 1973 he also received the NWA Texas Tag Team title twice. In mid-1974 he joined the American Wrestling Association . Due to his background as a strength athlete, Bednarski often performed strength demonstrations before his fights and he was nicknamed "Polish Power" .

WWWF / WWF

In 1976 Bednarski made his debut as Ivan Putski in the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). There he feuded with wrestlers like Bruiser Brody, Stan Hansen and Ivan Koloff . On June 25, 1976 , he defeated Baron Mikel Scicluna at the Showdown at Shea . His greatest success in the WWWF was winning the WWWF World Tag Team Title , which he received together with Tito Santana on October 22, 1979 against Johnny and Jerry Valiant. They held the title for six months and eventually lost it to the Wild Samoans .

In the 1980s, his active career came to an end. In May 1981 he won his final tag team title, the SWCW World Tag Team Championship , with Wahoo McDaniel against Dory Funk, Jr. and Larry Lane. On January 23, 1982 he was able to record a victory against Ron Shaw at a WWF show in Hamburg. In November 1985 he ended his career with WWF.

WWF

He returned to WWF in November 1987 and was defeated by Dan Spivey in a WWF Legends Battle Royal . In 1995 Bednarski was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame by his son Scott . In 1997 the Putskis and the Lawlers had another brief feud against each other, with the "father-and-son teams" battling it out in July 1997 and the Putskis victorious.

Strong Man Competitions

Bednarski often took part in so-called Strong Man competitions. Among other things, he took part in the World's Strongest Man Contest in 1978 .

Private

Bednarski currently lives in Austin, Texas . There he works as a security guard at Jack Hays High School.
