Ivan Rendic
Ivan Rendić (born August 27, 1849 in Imotski , Austrian Empire , † June 29, 1932 in Split , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) was an Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav sculptor .
His most famous works are public monuments of Croatian personalities that can be found in all parts of Croatia .
Life
Rendić began to work stones at a young age, based on the work of the Dalmatian island of Brač , on which he grew up. Until 1871 he attended the art school in Venice . He later worked in the Fiorentine sculpture studio. He spent most of his life in Trieste , where most of his work was done. His works have been exhibited in Zagreb and Split , among others .
Rendić was the first well-known sculpture artist in Croatia. He carried out his work in a realistic style with naturalistic details. In the course of his life, Rendić created over 200 sculptures.
His most famous works include the monuments by Andrea Schiavone , Giulio Clovio , Fran Krsto Frankopan , Ivan Gundulić , Nikola Jurišić and August Šenoa , Petar Preradović , Andrija Kačić Miošić , which are placed in Zagreb . As well as the monument of Ljudevit Gaj in Krapina and the tomb of the "Father of the Fatherland" Ante Starčević .
