Ivy is the debut album by the German pop singer Ivy Quainoo . It was released on March 2, 2012.

History of origin

After Ivy Quainoo won the final show of The Voice of Germany on February 10, 2012 , her first single Do You Like What You See was released on February 17, 2012 . This reached number 2 on the singles charts in Germany. The track was written by Djorkaeff ( Budde Music / MPMV), Beatzarre (Aquarium Songs / BMG ) and Sylvia Gordon ( Downtown Music ) during a songwriting camp in New York City in November 2010. Budde Music is also involved in the songs Walk Man and You Can't Put a Price on Love . Ivy Quainoo took an active part in the creation of her album. So she was included in the song selection, among other things. All songs were written with the help of songwriters and music producers in a relatively short time after winning the casting show. Boss Burns and Hoss Power from The BossHoss , the coaches from Quainoo on The Voice of Germany, are guests on the song I Say a Little Prayer (originally by Dionne Warwick ), which they themselves had covered on their album Rodeo Radio . In addition, the final title Shake It Out was added to the album in the live version together with the author Florence + the Machine .

There are partly cover versions on the album. In addition to the ones already mentioned, these are Shark in the Water by VV Brown , Soul Suckers by Amos Lee and You Can't Put a Price on Love by The Knack .

The album was released on March 2, 2012 on the label of The Voice of Germany and distributed by Universal Music . Immediately after its release, the album reached number 1 on the iTunes charts.

On June 7th, the second single You Got Me was released as a remixed version and the accompanying music video. The album and the first single Do You Like What You See was awarded gold status. On November 16th a Gold Edition was released containing three new songs.

Music style and reception

Musically, the album is in the soul as well as in the pop genre and lives mainly from Quainoo's characteristic soul singing. Stern TV says the artist is considered the "new soul voice of Germany" and the album is "tailored to the singer and therefore authentic". The magazine also praised the show concept.
