Jóvenes Clásicos del Son (Spanish: Young Classics of Son ) is a Cuban septet founded in 1994 .
Act
The group combines traditional Son with influences from other Cuban and international musical styles, including soul , jazz , rap and funk . The founder and musical director of the band is the bassist Ernesto Reyes Proenza, who also bears the stage name “Palma” and who used to play in the band of Cándido Fabré .
From 1995 the Jóvenes Clásicos del Son undertook numerous international tours. They also shared the stage with great Cuban and international musicians, including Wynton Marsalis and Compay Segundo . Individual band members also worked with Vocal Sampling and Peter Gabriel . The most frequent concert location is the “Casa Balear” in Havana's Vedado district , where the band usually performs every second Sunday (as of 2014).
The band name is related to the fact that relatively young musicians dedicated themselves to the classical music style of Son when they were founded - in 2001 all band members were under 35 years old.
reception
Their album Tambor en el alma , which the Jóvenes Clásicos del Son recorded in 2001 with well-known guest musicians such as Chucho Valdés and Changuito , received an overall rating of four out of five stars from the reviewer of the Allmusic website .
