Józef Gąsienica-Bryjak (born July 17, 1937 in Zakopane , † April 2002 ibid) was a Polish skier.

Career

As a representative of the AZS Zakopane sports club , Gąsienica-Bryjak achieved national successes in both Nordic combined and ski jumping . So he was already two times Polish champion in the junior division. In 1959 he celebrated his first success with the seniors when he became Polish champion in Nordic combined. Only a year later he became Polish ski jumping champion from Średnia Krokiew in Zakopane . He was able to defend this title in February 1961 in Wisła on the Malinka ski jump .

He celebrated his greatest international success in 1961 when he won the overall ranking of the Beskydy Tour in front of Hugo Fuchs and Władysław Tajner . Second place in Wisła was his greatest success in an international ski jumping competition.

In 1962 Gąsienica-Bryjak took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane. In the ski jumping competition on the Mittelschanze he finished 36th. This made him the worst of the participating Poles, which is why he was not nominated for the competition on the normal hill (K-90).

He ended his career after winning the bronze medal at the Polish Ski Jumping Championships in 1962 at the age of just 24.
