Jewish cemetery (Tiefenthal)
The Jewish cemetery Tiefenthal is a cemetery in the municipality of Tiefenthal (Rheinhessen) in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The Jewish cemetery is west of the village in the hallway "Im Bremmenberg".
In the 2415 m² cemetery, which was probably laid out in the first half of the 19th century and occupied until around 1904, there are eight gravestones or remains of gravestone from around 1849 to 1904. Only three of them are legible .
history
The cemetery was no longer maintained before 1933. In the following decades the cemetery area grew. In 1971, with the consent of the state rabbinate of Hesse, it was planned to “take the cemetery out of maintenance”. For a documentation of the cemetery only a few surviving tombstones could be found in September 1988 after several attempts: The entire cemetery area was overgrown by high, impenetrable hedges. It was not until 1989 that the property was restored as a walk-in cemetery with considerable effort.
