career

Amateur league, 2nd Bundesliga, Bundesliga soccer, 1968 to 1986

Through the youth and amateur stations SV Frankonia Nürnberg, TSV 61 Zirndorf, Grundig Fürth and TSV Altenfurt, the 22-year-old Jürgen Baier came to the 2nd Bundesliga Group South in 1980 , to SpVgg Fürth . In his first season in the 2nd Bundesliga, 1980/81, the enthusiastic and attacking left full- back made 31 appearances alongside goalkeeper Peter Löwer , defensive specialists Bernhard Bergmann , Hermann Grabmeier and Manfred Ritschel and midfielders Florian Hinterberger and Franz Weber for the shamrock elf. On the 1st game day, August 5, 1980, the newcomer was substituted on in the 78th minute in the home game against the Stuttgarter Kickers by coach Dieter Schulte . After the second round he received an offer from SC Fortuna Köln and moved to the cathedral city in 1982. Under the guidance of coach Martin Luppen , President Hans Löring's team played for a long time in the 1982/83 round in the battle for promotion places, but ultimately missed it by reaching sixth place in the table. In the German Cup Franke Jürgen Baier experienced a very successful season. Due to the successes against SC Freiburg , SSV Ulm 1846 , Eintracht Braunschweig , Borussia Mönchengladbach and in the semifinals over Borussia Dortmund , Fortuna and the regular Baier moved into the final of 1983. It took place on June 11th in Cologne and the opponent was 1. FC Cologne . During the exciting final, Baier often had to face duels against Pierre Littbarski . The "billy goat-Elf" won the game in front of 61,000 spectators with 1-0 goals. In the following two rounds, the Südstadt-Elf did not get beyond midfield positions in the 2nd division and Baier accepted the offer of the Bundesliga promoted Hannover 96 for the round 1985/86 and moved to Hannover after 106 games with six goals for Fortuna Cologne. Although Jürgen Baier was part of the regular line-up at Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga with his 31 missions and one goal , he was not happy. With Werner Biskup , Jürgen Rynio , Jörg Berger and Helmut Kalthoff, the Lower Saxony wore four coaches in the 1985/86 round and were relegated to bottom of the table.

2nd Bundesliga, 1986 to 1993

Coach Horst Heese , who had already trained Baier in the 1983/84 round at Fortuna Cologne, brought the Franconian to Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the 2nd Bundesliga for the 1986/87 round . In 31 missions with two hits, the left offensive full-back tried to keep Viktoria away from the relegation places. This did not succeed, however, Aschaffenburg occupied 18th place in the table and was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga. Hannover 96, on the other hand, managed to get back up immediately. In the summer of 1987, Baier moved from the stadium on Schönbusch to the Bieberer Berg in Offenbach. At the side of center forward Dieter Müller , he experienced two rounds with places 8th and 15th, the sporting record was thus satisfactory. The balance sheets of the OFC , however, were not, after the 1988/89 season Kickers Offenbach's license was revoked and Baier changed his job again in the second division. He signed with the "Lilien" from SV Darmstadt 98 . From 1989 to 1993, Baier, who tirelessly plowed the left defensive side, ran in 133 games with four goals for the team from the stadium at Böllenfalltor. The best placement was eighth in the 1991/92 round. As a 35-year-old senior, Jürgen Baier and Darmstadt rose after the Mammut round in 1992/93 with 24 clubs as the last in the table from the 2nd Bundesliga and ended his career in the 2nd division after a total of 392 games with 14 goals .
