Peter Löwer (born November 10, 1944 in Nuremberg ) is a former German soccer player . He played 231 games in the 2nd Bundesliga from 1974 to 1981 as the goalkeeper of SpVgg Fürth , after having played 241 games in the Fürth goal in the South Regional Football League from 1964 to 1974 .
career
Youth and Regionalliga Süd, until 1974
Peter Löwer started his football career in 1954 as a field player in the school team of SpVgg Frankonia Nürnberg in the Gebersdorf district. In the B and A youth at TSV Johannis 83 Nuremberg, he was only in goal and played his way into the Bavarian and southern German selection teams thanks to his talent. The high point for him were the appointments to the youth national team of the DFB by the coaches Dettmar Cramer and Helmut Schön in the spring of 1963. He moved up to the new DFB youth 1963 for Sepp Maier, who was born in February 1944 and stood in the two qualifying games for the 1963 UEFA youth tournament against Austria in February and March 1963 in the goal of the German youth team.
He was also the goalkeeper in the first group match of the UEFA tournament on April 13 in Slough Town against Greece. Helmut Sandmann , Klaus Zaczyk , Udo Glaser , Willi Dürrschnabel and Günter Netzer played in the attack in the 2: 7 defeat . In the two other group matches against Scotland and Switzerland, he was replaced by Wolfgang Mühlschwein . After his youth he moved to the 1963/64 round at SpVgg Fürth in the regional soccer league south. The local competitor 1. FC Nürnberg tackled the new chapter of the Bundesliga with the two goalkeepers Roland Wabra and Gerhard Strick and had not asked Johannis Talent. The people of Fürth, on the other hand, had shown interest and so the change came about. In the Ronhof, however, Gyula Tóth inherited the long-time goalkeeper Gerhard Geißler . Löwers path with the game association began in 1963/64 because of the one-year club change ban only once in the local amateur team.
In the second year of Fürth, 1964/65, the young player celebrated his debut in the regional league under coach Željko Čajkovski . On November 8, 1964 he was in the goal of the game association as the "Kleeblatt-Elf" lost with 1: 2 goals on the Bieberer Berg against Kickers Offenbach with their top performers Siegfried Gast , Sigfried Held and Hermann Nuber . What was also memorable for the young goalkeeper in this round was his appearance on January 17, 1965 for the later promoted FC Bayern Munich . Bayern won the game with 5: 1 goals and Löwer experienced not only the young Franz Beckenbauer but also the outstanding Munich attack with Rudolf Nafziger , Rainer Ohlhauser , Gerd Müller , Dieter Koulmann and Dieter Brenninger . In total, he came to eleven missions in his first regional round. Heinz Kraus was now the new number one at the Ronhof for Toth who had moved to Schalke. Kraus defended this place until 1967 when he moved to VfR Mannheim . After his departure, however, Löwer had to do two rounds with rival Dirk Krüssenberg, who had come from Fortuna Düsseldorf . Only from the 1969/70 round he was the absolute goalkeeper of Fürth. He completed all 38 league games for the White-Greens and finished eighth in the table with his teammates. His last appearance in the old second-rate Regionalliga Süd resulted from the home encounter on April 20, 1974 when Fürth wrested a 1-1 draw from TSV 1860 Munich and took tenth place under coach Heinz Elzner and was thus new for the 1974/75 round introduced 2nd Bundesliga was qualified.
Second Bundesliga, 1974 to 1981
In the first rounds of the 2nd division Löwer and colleagues fought to stay in the league. In the second year, the Fürth team started with 4:24 points and were in 20th place. In the second half of the season they reached 27:11 points. The "club" as runner-up came in at 26:12 points in the same period. Paul-Werner Hofmann scored 23 goals in attack. For the first time in the last round of coach Hans Cieslarczyk , 1976/77, eighth place achieved a single-digit placement in the 2nd Bundesliga. The defensive bulwark with Libero Bernhard Bergmann , Vorstopper Wolfgang Lausen , the full-backs Hermann Grabmeier and Helmut Klump and the outstanding goalkeeper Löwer were well coordinated. When under the new coach Hannes Baldauf in 1977/78 the training was tightened considerably, practically the professionalism with two training sessions per day was introduced, Löwer gave up his work at the age of 29 and became a professional himself. He describes his performance development as follows: “With maturity came the feeling of leaving the goal line at the right moment. I probably had my best time between 28 and 32 years, due to even more training and the routine that is essential for a goalkeeper ”. In the 1978/79 season he and his teammates achieved the best placement in the 2nd division with fourth place behind Meister 1860 Munich, SpVgg Bayreuth and Wormatia Worms . A weak start with 8:14 points and the three minus points on the 34th and 35th matchdays against FC Hanau 93 and FSV Frankfurt prevented a possible promotion to the Bundesliga. The veteran had his last appearance in the 2nd Bundesliga on May 17, 1981 in a 3-3 draw at Borussia Neunkirchen . On May 22, 1981, he tore his shoulder straps and was unable to return to the gate. On September 30, 1981 he was declared a sports disabled person. He played in the old men's team until 1991, but as a left winger. After that he only played tennis.
