Daniel Baier (born May 18, 1984 in Cologne ) is a German soccer player and was most recently under contract with FC Augsburg . In the central midfield, Baier usually plays in the defensive 6-position, he has playmaker qualities and is considered a good passer . Baier is currently without a club.
Life
Baier was born in Cologne as the son of professional soccer player Jürgen Baier . His father was a player at SC Fortuna Köln at the time . After his father moved to Hannover 96 for just one season in 1985 , the family lived in Aschaffenburg from 1986 , where Jürgen Baier played for Viktoria Aschaffenburg . His brother Benjamin Baier is also a professional soccer player.
Club career
Daniel Baier learned to play football at TSV Mainaschaff and Teutonia Obernau . Together with Marcel Schäfer , he moved from Viktoria Aschaffenburg to the youth team of TSV 1860 Munich in 2000 . He made his Bundesliga debut on September 13, 2003 (5th matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against 1. FC Köln , when he came on for Benjamin Lauth in the 90th minute .
For the 2007/08 season Baier moved to VfL Wolfsburg , where he signed a three-year contract. On September 1, 2008, FC Augsburg borrowed Baier from VfL Wolfsburg for one year until the end of the 2008/09 season . After the end of the loan period, he returned to Wolfsburg.
On January 31, 2010, Baier moved back to FC Augsburg. He received a contract there until 2012, which has been extended several times.
As the FCA announced on July 23, 2020, his contract, which ran until June 30, 2021, was terminated by mutual agreement.
National team
After Baier had already successfully completed several positions in the youth national teams of the DFB , Dieter Eilts appointed him to the U-21 national team in 2005 , for which he made his debut on October 7, 2005 during the European Championship qualification in Braunschweig in the game against Wales .
Political commitment
In addition, Daniel Baier has been involved in Show Racism the Red Card - Deutschland e. V. In November 2013 he took part in a workshop of the education initiative and reported to the students about his own experiences with racism and discrimination .
