In 2000, Geißinger was responsible for the purchase of the clutch manufacturer LuK Group , and in 2001 also the first hostile takeover of a listed company by a family company in Germany, the Schweinfurt-based FAG Kugelfischer Georg Schäfer AG . He was its chairman of the board from 2001 to 2004, since then he has been chairman of the supervisory board. He made the Schaeffler Group the world's second largest rolling bearing manufacturer. Geissinger was Vice President of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and spokesman for its supplier group. He is also a member of the supervisory board of Continental AG (until October 2013), MTU Aero Engines and Sandvik AB.

In December 2015, Geissinger took over the role of CEO of Senvion , one of the leading wind turbine manufacturers.

In May 2018, Geißinger resigned from all his offices at Senvion in order to devote himself to new professional challenges.
