Career

Thomas came to the children's and youth sports school in Klingenthal as an eighth grader , where he began mainly with ski jumping training.

He made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1976/77 . He left out the opening competition in Oberstdorf. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Great Olympic Hill , he achieved his best individual result with ninth place. However, in Innsbruck and in Bischofshofen, he no longer made it into the top 30 and thus finished the tour in 65th place.

Things went better for Thomas at the Four Hills Tournament 1977/78 . In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he again achieved a top 10 position in tenth place. Before that he had achieved a good place with 19th place on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf . In Innsbruck and Bischofshofen, too, he came in among the best 30. In the overall standings, he reached 17th place with 659 points.

In 1980 he suffered a broken thigh while jumping on the Vogtlandschanze in Klingenthal and then ended his active ski jumping career. In the same year he completed his training as a referee and judge shortly afterwards. After completing his economics studies, he worked in the association until after the fall of the Berlin Wall . After Thomas moved to the Stuttgart area a little later to work in the packaging industry, in 1998 he got the opportunity to work as a representative for a failed jumping judge at the German championship in Oberstdorf . Later he was a jumping judge at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Lillehammer and Wisła . He was also a jumping judge at a ski flying world championship .

For the 2013/14 season, Thomas started his job as a jumping judge in the Continental Cup of Nordic Combined in January 2014 . Previously, he was a judge at the Four Hills Tournament 2013/14 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It was his second tour after being used in the Four Hills Tournament 2002/03 in Bischofshofen .
