Johann Albrecht Cropp (born July 11, 1927 in Berlin ; † June 26, 2020 in Murnau ) was a German photographer , journalist and author .

Life

Cropp was born in Berlin as the son of a self-employed insurance businessman from Hamburg and a mother from Austria .

He spent his youth and primary school in Berlin. From 1937 he attended the country school home Grovesmühle and the Hermann-Lietz-Schule Haubinda , then the high school in Garmisch , which he graduated with the Abitur . He experienced the end of the Second World War as a paratrooper .

From 1946 to 1949 he worked as a photo lab technician and club photographer for American occupation soldiers in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich . He was then accepted into the newly founded "Institute for Photojournalism" in Munich. In addition, he received one of the very rare scholarships from the Werner Friedmann Institute , today's German School of Journalism .

For a period of four years he worked as a reporter for Süddeutscher Verlag and Münchner Illustrierte . One of his greatest sponsors was the journalist Hans Habe , who, despite his lack of knowledge at the time, repeatedly used him for large projects. From 1954, Johann Albrecht Cropp worked as a freelance journalist and promoter in the Frankfurt am Main area . He contributed to more than 30 illustrated books, around 50 automobile calendars and countless wall calendars on political topics, for example on the division of Germany. Extensive travels took him all over the world, which he vividly presented in many publications in pictures and words. He also worked as a freelancer for the Volkswagen factory .

After 40 years of living in Neu-Isenburg and Niederhöchstadt , he has settled in Murnau am Staffelsee ( Bavaria ) since 2013 . He died on June 26, 2020 in Murnau.
