Jackson "Jack" DeGovia (born March 22, 1941 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma , United States ) is an American film architect .

Life

Jackson 'Jack' DeGovia first studied English at the University of San Francisco before working as a set designer and set designer at several theaters in San Francisco . One of the best-known pieces that he is responsible for setting the scene is the mental hospital grotesque " One flew over the cuckoo's nest ".

In 1972 Jack DeGovia was hired as the architect for John Korty's television film The People , and the following year he oversaw his first major feature film with Robert Altman's outlaw drama Thieves Like Us . During the 1980s, DeGovia established himself as one of the leading film architects in Hollywood . Above all, he designed the decors for expensive and lavish mainstream entertainment such as Speed , Sister Act and Volcano , as well as for several action flicks with Bruce Willis ( Die Hard , Die Hard: Now all the more , Hudson Hawk ).

In addition to working for the cinema, Jackson DeGovia remained sporadically active for television; For example, in the early 1980s he designed the optical design for the World War II multi-part series The Firestorm .
