Jacob Fabricius called the Younger (* 1589 in Tondern '; † April 24, 1645 at Gottorf Castle ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of the Gottorfish share in the duchies of Schleswig and Holstein .

life and work

He was the eldest son of the general superintendent Jacob Fabricius (the elder) . Together with his three next-younger brothers Philipp, Georg and Johann Adolph , he began studying theology in Rostock in 1610 , which all four of them completed on the same day, October 14, 1613, with a master's degree. After completing his theology studies, he became pastor in Lunden in 1614 and from 1615 was also provost in Norderdithmarschen . From 1616 he served as court preacher to the Dowager Duchess Augusta , Johann Adolf's widow, who lived in the palace in front of Husum . In 1622 he was called to Gottorf as court preacher and provost general to assist his father. In 1636 he received the dignity of superintendent general alongside his father and was his successor in 1640. Contemporaries described him as a pattern of love, gentleness and affability .

Jacob Fabricius was married twice. His two sons became pastors. One of his daughters, Agnes (1626-1694), married in 1643 Paul Sperling (1605-1679), pastor in Bordesholm and rector of the local high school, who in founding the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel in 1665 was one of the first professors of theology.
