Jacob Schmidheiny (entrepreneur, 1875)

Jacob Schmidheiny (born June 21, 1875 in Heerbrugg ; † January 8, 1955 ) was a Swiss industrialist , pioneer of the brick industry and politician.

Life

Jacob Schmidheiny was born in Heerbrugg Castle as the son of Jacob Schmidheiny and Elise Schmidheiny, nee. Merchant from Toggenburg , born. He attended the district school of St. Gallen and the business school of Neuchâtel , he made in Konstanz a brickyard technical teaching. He studied engineering from 1895 to 1899, graduating from the Zurich Polytechnic with a degree in civil engineering. In 1904 he married Fanny Alder, daughter of Otto Kaufmann. Jacob Schmidheiny is the father of Nelly Helen Schmidheiny, Peter Schmidheiny (1908–2001), Marianne Schmidheiny and Ursula Schmidheiny.

After graduating, he worked as a site manager in Geneva , Lausanne and Italy . From 1902 he was, together with his brother Ernst Schmidheiny , a partner in his father's brick. In 1906 he founded SAFIR Automobile in Rheineck . Together with his brother, he founded the Heerbrugg school community in 1906. In Espenmoos, ( St. Gallen ) he built a new brick in 1907. From 1907 he was the sole owner of the company Ziegelei J. Schmidheiny & Co. In 1912 he worked in the Zürcher Ziegeleien AG . In the same year he founded, together with Heinrich Wild and Robert Helbling , the Heinrich Wild AG . In 1926 he was president of Zürcher Ziegelein AG. He was chairman of the board of directors of Dornier-Werke Altenrhein in 1933. Jacob was a co-owner of the Escher Wyß AG Zurich machine factory , which was sold to Sulzer AG in 1966/69 .

He had a seat in the Grand Council of St. Gallen from 1924 to 1935. In 1934/35 he was a member of the National Council .
