Jacqueline Joan Kim (born March 31, 1965 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American actress .

Life

The actress' father was from Korea , her mother is from Japan . Kim graduated from Chicago with a degree in dramaturgy , where she then worked at a theater. She made her film debut in a minor supporting role in the 1989 television drama Howard Beach: Making a Case for Murder . In the early 1990s, she worked for the Guthrie Theater Company in Minneapolis .

In the SF adventure film Star Trek: Gathering of Generations (1994), Kim appeared on the side of Patrick Stewart and William Shatner . In Barry Levinson's thriller Unveiling (1994) she played the role of secretary to manager Tom Sanders ( Michael Douglas ), who is accused of sexual harassment by Meredith Johnson ( Demi Moore ). In the disaster film Volcano (1997) she was seen at the side of Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche . She took on one of the bigger roles alongside Claire Danes , Kate Beckinsale and Bill Pullman in the 1999 film drama Brokedown Palace . Kim played the title role in the independent thriller The Operator (2000). The role in the film drama Charlotte Sometimes (2002) earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award in 2003 . In 2004 she received the Garland and LA Drama Critics' Circle Award for her lead role in the play Passion .

Kim directed the short film Present (2006), for which she also wrote the screenplay and which she produced. She lives in Los Angeles .
