Jairus Byrd Keelon (* 7. October 1986 in San Diego , California ) is a former American American Footballer in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Buffalo Bills , the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers as safety .

Youth and college

Jairus came as the son of former NFL player and current cornerback - coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gill Byrd to the world. His great athletic talent was already evident in high school . He not only played football in various positions, but also excelled as a track and field athlete and basketball player. He attended the University of Oregon and played for their team, the Ducks, between 2006 and 2008 in secondary and special teams college football .

NFL

Buffalo Bills

In the NFL Draft 2009 he was selected in the 2nd round as a total of 42nd by the Buffalo Bills . In his rookie season he only came into action after two other players were injured, but immediately showed good performances, for which he was finally called up to the Pro Bowl . He played four more seasons for the Bills, where he also scored two interception return touchdowns and two more times for the Pro Bowl was considered.

New Orleans Saints

On March 11, 2014, Byrd signed a six-year contract with the New Orleans Saints . In the fourth game as a starter for his new team, he suffered a knee injury and was out for the rest of the season. After playing 33 games for the Saints in three years, his release was announced in March 2017.

Carolina Panthers

After Safety Kurt Coleman was injured, Byrd was signed by the Carolina Panthers on October 3, 2017 .
After a moderate season, in twelve games he only managed 11 tackles, his contract was not extended.
