Jakob Bissinger (born October 1, 1873 in Zeubelried , today a district of Ochsenfurt ; † June 13, 1933 in Hausen , today a district of Bad Kissingen ) was a German painter.

Life

Bissinger was the son of a farmer and studied from April 20, 1898 ( matriculation number 1819) at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in the painting school of Otto Seitz (1846-1912). Later he worked temporarily in Tyrol .

As a spa guest at the Steinhof 93 estate in Hausen, his future home, Bissinger met the daughter of his landlord at the time, Margarete Kiesel (born July 25, 1876), whom he later married. The marriage remained childless.

After his wedding, Bissinger lived in the Hausener hamlet Steinhof 4 in the neighborhood of his in-laws until his death and earned his living through commissioned work in the region around Bad Kissingen. The academic painter painted churches and portrayed people from the region.

In the church of St. Joachim and Anna in Kleinbrach, Bissinger painted the interiors between 1914 and 1915 on behalf of the local government. At that time the costs were given as 1,500 marks. Paintings by him have also been preserved in the old church of Bad Bocklet and in the Chapel of Seven Pains in Wollbach (1915), but today they are largely whitewashed.

The Bad Kissinger Saale-Zeitung wrote about his work in Wollbach on July 11, 1915: “The paintings, as well as the designs for the entrance door, carved in the spirit of the whole, and the grant from the hand of the painter Bissinger from Steinhof near Kissingen. Bissinger, who had already received universal recognition and admiration for his skills last year through his restoration work in the church in Kleinbrach, also showed himself to be technically adept at these new tasks and solved the ecclesiastical and religious requirements with a deep understanding. " For his The painter received 320 marks for work including colors.

In 1920 he created new ceiling paintings in the transept and in the choir of the Church of St. Ulrich in Poppenroth .

Before and after the First World War , Bissinger was an indispensable helper for many clubs in Bad Kissingen and the surrounding area when it came to decorating club parties and designing certificates and posters.

On the day of his death, the Saale-Zeitung wrote in its obituary on June 13, 1933: “Death. This morning in his 59th year the painter Mr. Jakob Bissinger died of a stroke. For a number of years he has lived at the Steinhofe in front of the Upper Saline , and has become a well-known personality here too. His artistic work, especially his church paintings in the area (Bocklet, Kleinbrach) and earlier in Tyrol, as well as the certificates of honor and posters he painted for festivities, received generally appreciative attention.
