Jakob Schulze-Rohr

Jakob Schulze-Rohr (born February 18, 1930 in Leipzig ; † November 17, 2008 ) was a German architect and urban planner .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1951, Schulze-Rohr studied architecture and urban planning at the Technical University of Berlin at the Kant-Gymnasium Berlin-Spandau and from 1966 to 1968 urban planning and urban sociology at the Town Planning Department of the University of London . From 1961 he worked in Germany, but also in Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Great Britain and East Africa. From 1970 to 1973 he was a member of the planning staff of the Senate Building Director at the Senator for Building and Housing Berlin. From 1974 to 2000 he had his own planning office with three partners in Berlin. He realized over 60 building, urban planning and development plan projects and had some competition successes.

From 1981 to 1984 he taught construction and planning at the ARDHI Institute of the University of Dar es Salaam , Tanzania, East Africa and took on development aid tasks for the Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) . Schulze-Rohr founded the Institute for Future Research and Technology Assessment (IZT) in Berlin in the early 1980s together with Rolf Kreibich and with the participation of Robert Jungk , Dietrich Goldschmidt and Ossip K. Flechtheim and was temporarily its managing director. Since 1999 he has been the managing partner of “LEA ROSH Kommunikation + Medien GmbH” in Berlin.

He was a member of the Berlin Chamber of Architects, since 1968 a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA), and until 2004 of the Architects and Engineers Association (AIV). From 1988 to 1990 he was a member of the board for public relations at BDA.

Jakob Schulze-Rohr died in 2008 at the age of 78 from complications from cancer. His grave is in the Schmargendorf cemetery .

Act

Schulze-Rohr was a board member of the International League for Human Rights in the 1990s . Since 2004 he has been involved as a member of the “Citizens' Initiative against the Banking Scandal ” and since 2005 as a member of the “Friends of the Hans Otto Theater ” in Potsdam. He was a younger brother of the director Peter Schulze-Rohr and, with Lea Rosh , with whom he had been married since 1970, was one of the founding members in 1988 and since then board members in the “Support Group for the Construction of a Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe” in Berlin eV

After the memorial for the murdered Jews of Europe was inaugurated in 2005, among others Schulze-Rohr's widow, the historian Eberhard Jäckel , the cultural politician Monika Grütters (CDU) and the former Justice Senator Wolfgang Wieland (Greens) signed the death notice of the sponsorship group under the title " The most important German monument owes its existence to him ”.
