description

The starting point is the municipality of Kautzen on the Czech border, which has a St. James' Church. The first, almost 30-kilometer-long stage leads past the fortified church from the 13th century in Kleinzwettl in the market town of Gastern , which was consecrated to St. James, and extends to the market town of Vitis .

The second stage is about 18 kilometers long and leads from Vitis to the market town of Echsenbach , where there is also a church of St. James. Along the Allentsteig military training area one arrives at the small village of Germanns .

The third stage, which leads past the city of Zwettl to the north , first reaches Rosenau Castle before reaching the city of Groß-Gerungs after a total of 28 kilometers . The so-called Jakobi houses in the settlement of St. Jakob were built from the stones of the former Jakobskapelle Thail.

On the fourth stage, about 22 kilometers long, you use long-distance hiking trail 611 over long stretches , cross the market town of Arbesbach and finally reach Altmelon , where the St. Jacob's Church from 1259, which belongs to the Arbesbach parish, is located.

The fifth stage of the Way of St. James leads from Altmelon from the Waldviertel to the Mühlviertel. There, the town of Haid in the market town of Königswiesen is reached after just under 12 kilometers .

The sixth stage, almost 29 kilometers long, takes you from Haid to Bad Zell . The Jakobskirche in the market town between Schönau im Mühlkreis was first mentioned in a document in 1230.

The almost 19 kilometer long seventh stage from Bad Zell to Perg leads to a large valley through the Naar valley. The Jakobskirche in Perg was first mentioned in a document in 1416, but is likely to be significantly older.

A section of the Donausteiges leads west from Perg to Mauthausen, where it is possible to cross the Danube by car or train or, in summer, by bicycle ferry. In Asten, south of the Danube, it is integrated into the main line of the Austrian Way of St. James. This stage is almost 14 kilometers long.

Project

The Jakobsweg Mühlviertel-Ostein is a project of the pilgrim guide Peter Nefischer , which was developed in several stages between June 2012 and May 2014.
