James G. Fulton (1945)

James Grove Fulton (born March 1, 1903 in Dormont , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania , †  October 6, 1971 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1971 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Fulton attended public schools in South Hills and then the Fine Arts Department of the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh . In 1924 he graduated from Pennsylvania State College . After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his admission to the bar in 1928, he began to work in this profession in Pittsburgh. He also worked in agriculture. Between 1934 and 1942 he was a member of the Allegheny County's Law Revision Commission ( Allegheny County Board of Law Examiners ). Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He served in the Pennsylvania Senate in 1939 and 1940 . In 1942 he was the legal representative of his home town of Dormont. At that time he also published several newspapers. During World War II , he served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945 . He was used in the Pacific region.

In the 1944 congressional election , Fulton, who was then still active in the military, was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the 31st  constituency of Pennsylvania, where he succeeded Herman P. Eberharter on January 3, 1945 . After 13 re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on October 6, 1971 . Since 1953 he represented the 27th district of his state there. During his time in Congress, the end of the Second World War, the beginning of the Cold War , the Korean War and, domestically, the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War fell . Fulton was an American delegate to various international conferences while serving as Congressman. In 1947 and 1948 he took part in a UN conference in Havana in part, which dealt with issues of trade and employment ( United Nations Conference on Trade and Employment ). In 1959 he represented the United States at the 14th  General Assembly of the United Nations . Between 1960 and 1969 he was an advisor to the American UN delegation on space issues.
