James Hampton (actor)

James Wade Hampton (born July 9, 1936 in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma ) is an American actor , television director and screenwriter .

Life

James Hampton grew up near Dallas , Texas where his father owned a cleaning business. He studied drama at the University of North Texas , where he was a member of the student association Kappa Alpha Order . After several unsuccessful attempts to work as a bodyguard, bartender or photojournalist, he joined the United States Army , where he was assigned to the 6th Cavalry . During his service in Germany he played for the United Service Organizations, among others . After his service, he appeared at the Summer Stock Theater in Texas and later moved to New York City , where he starred in the Oscar-nominated short film The Cliff Dwellers and in the television series Smoking Colts alongside Burt Reynolds .

Hampton has been married to actress Mary Deese since 2002 .
