James Louis Connolly

James Louis Connolly (born November 15, 1894 in Fall River , Massachusetts , USA ; † September 12, 1986 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Fall River .

Life

James Louis Connolly received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Fall River on December 21, 1923 , but was incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul the following year . Here he taught for many years as a professor at the seminary of the archbishopric, which he later took over as rector.

On April 7, 1945 Pope Pius XII appointed him . the Coadjutor Bishop of Fall River and titular bishop of Mylasa . The Archbishop of Saint Paul, John Gregory Murray , donated him episcopal ordination on May 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Sioux Falls , William Otterwell Brady , and the Coadjutor Bishop of Winona , Leo Binz .

With the death of James Edwin Cassidys on May 17, 1951, he succeeded him as Bishop of Fall River. He was particularly committed to caring for priestly vocations and the terminally ill. He founded four regional high schools and the diocese newspaper The Anchor . He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI accepted his age-related resignation on October 30, 1970 and appointed him titular bishop of Thibuzabetum . Because of the changed allocation guidelines, he gave up the titular seat just two months later.
