James Edwin Cassidy

James Edwin Cassidy (born August 1, 1869 in Woonsocket , Rhode Island , USA , † May 17, 1951 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Fall River .

Life

James Edwin Cassidy received on 8 September 1898, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Bishop Daniel Francis Feehan appointed him Vicar General of the Fall River Diocese .

On March 21, 1930, Pope Pius XI appointed him . the auxiliary bishop in Fall River and titular bishop of Ibora . The Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Pietro Fumasoni Biondi , ordained him episcopal on May 27 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Burlington , Joseph John Rice , and the Bishop of Manchester , George Albert Guertin .

A few months later, on October 3, 1930, he took over the official duties of the sick Bishop Feehan as Apostolic Administrator . On July 13, 1934 he was appointed coadjutor bishop and a few days later succeeded Bishop Feehan, who died on July 19, 1934, as Bishop of Fall River.

Cassidy stood up for workers' rights and was concerned about the situation of the elderly. The old people's homes he founded served as models for many such institutions.
