Jan Adrian Łata (born March 7, 1944 in Radłów , Poland ) is a Polish Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Jan Adrian Łata was born on March 7, 1944 in Biskupice Radłowskie near Radłów , Poland, about 20 kilometers northwest of Tarnów , the third of four children. His father was a construction technician, his mother a weaver. He was confirmed on June 25, 1956 in Radłów by Auxiliary Bishop Karol Pękala . In May 1962, Łata finished his schooling at the humanistic license in Radłów with the Abitur and entered the seminary in Tarnów. He had to interrupt his studies from 1963 to 1965 in order to do general compulsory military service. On May 25, 1969, Łata was in the Cathedral of Tarnów by Bishop Jerzy Karol Ablewiczordained a priest. From 1969 to 1971 he worked as vicar in Książnice, 1971 to 1973 in Lubzina, 1973 to 1975 in Rymaj near Kohlberg , 1975 to 1983 in Borowa near Mielec , and 1983 to 1988 in Tannenberg . From 1988 to 1991 he was a parish administrator in Grünwald near Munich . From 1991 to 2017 Łata was pastor of the Weiding parish . In 2017, Łata retired and returned to his native Poland. In 1994 Archbishop Józef Życiński of Lublin awarded him the title of Canon (Expositorii Canonicalis).

Scientific activity

Łata acquired in 1975 from the Catholic University of Lublin the master's degree with his thesis on "pojęcie czynnika konstytutywnego osoby u późnych scholastyków, zwłaszcza karmelity bosego Aleksandra a Jesus" (The idea of personality formation of the late scholastics, particularly the Discalced Carmelites Alexander of Jesus) at Archbishop Bolesław Pylak from Lublin. In 1987 he graduated from the Theological Academy Krakow the licentiate with the work "Metoda korelacji w nowoczesnej teologii, zwłaszcza u Paula Tillicha" (the method of mutual relations in modern theology, especially in Paul Tillich ). Łata received his doctorate in 1993 from the Theological Academy in Kraków with a thesis on "Bóg i Chrystus - jako objawione odpowiedzi na tajemnicę bytu i egzystencji człowieka według Pawła Tillicha" (God and Christ as the answer to the mystery of being and the existence of man in the Paul Tillich's philosophy). With his doctoral thesis and with numerous translations of Paul Tillich's works into Polish, he helped the Protestant theologian Paul Tillich and, associated with it, to make known the ideas of Karl Barth , Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Rudolf Bultmann in Catholic Poland. Łata writes books about the situation of Christians today.
