Jan Miner

Jan Miner (born October 15, 1917 in Boston , † February 15, 2004 in Bethel , Connecticut ) was an American actress .

life and career

Between 1949 and 1997 Jan Miner appeared in a total of around 30 film and television productions, often in supporting roles as a housewife, aunt or nurse. Her better-known film appearances include Lenny (1974) alongside Dustin Hoffman and Mermaids Kiss Better (1990) alongside Cher and Bob Hoskins . From 1960 to 1984 she also appeared in a dozen plays on Broadway . She became known primarily for her personification of the manicurist Tilly in numerous commercials for the dishwashing detergent Palmolive ( “You are just bathing your hands in it” ). She played the character of Tilly ( called Madge in the English original ) in a period from 1966 to 1992.

Jan Miner was married four times, most recently with actor and director Richard Merrell from 1963 until his death in 1998. She died in February 2004 at the age of 86.
