Jan Murken

Jan Murken (born August 19, 1934 in Gütersloh ) is a German geneticist , pediatrician , professor em. for paediatrics and human genetics , local politician , museum founder and museum director in Ottobrunn (Munich district).

Life

Jan (formerly: Jan-Diether) Murken worked as a pediatrician at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich from 1963 and from 1978 until his retirement in 2004 as head of the medical genetics department.

Murken has lived in Ottobrunn since 1971 and was there for the SPD on the local council for 24 years. From 1972 to 1986 he represented Ottobrunn interests in the Munich-Land district council . From 1978 to 2018 he campaigned for the promotion of culture and the preservation of monuments in the district assembly .

Murken has headed the Otto König von Greece Museum in Ottobrunn since 1989 , which he inspired, conceived and built up in major parts.

He also initiated the community partnership with Nauplia in 1976 , the first ever German-Greek partnership.

Awards

Jan Murken has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon (1995), the Gold Medal of the Historical Society of Athens (1999), the Medal Munich Shines in Silver (2001), the Bavarian Order of Merit (2002), the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in Silver (2004), the Ottobrunn Citizen Medal (2005) and the Golden Ring of Honor of the Association of German-Greek Societies (2005). In 2013 he was made an honorary member of the German Society for Human Genetics in Dresden . Murken has been an honorary citizen of Ottobrunn since 2014.
