Jan Willem

Jan Willem , actually Wilhelm Hempelmann (born June 23, 1934 in Vechta ; † March 24, 2019 in Bramsche ), was a German singer, entertainer and presenter.

Life

Hempelmann was the eldest of three sons. After training as a carpenter and studying interior design at the Werkkunstschule in Hildesheim , he co-founded the Vechtaer Carnevals Club in 1969 and worked as an interior designer. He later became known as a humorist and singer under the name Jan Willem. Since 1976 he has been active as a pure stage artist.

In 1985 Jan Willem appeared as a singer on the ARD television program Zum Blauen Bock . Jan Willem hosted the current showroom for two years and, together with Carlo von Tiedemann, the large harbor tour on NDR television for five years . In 1999 he took part in the German preliminary round for the Grand Prix of Folk Music with the title "Handshake Between North and South", but could not qualify for the final competition. Jan Willem was nicknamed "The Singing Double Centner".

He died on March 24, 2019 at the age of 84 in the Malgarten monastery in Bramsche ( Osnabrück district ), where he had last lived with his partner Biggi Hansen since 2013. Jan Willem had three children.
