Karussell is a radio play label based in Berlin , which belongs to the Universal Music group. The label specializes in children's radio plays and songs and produces series such as Gabriel Burns and Maya the Bee .

history

The Swedish pop and jazz label was founded in 1953 by Carl-Gustaf Niren and Simon Brehm under the name Karusell . It led the way in the introduction of jazz in Scandinavia as a license holder for Norman Granz 'jazz labels in the 1950s and 1960s. Published under this label a. a. The Poni-Tails , Johnny Nash , Steve Lawrence , Paul Anka and Sam Cooke .

In 1962, Deutsche Grammophon acquired the label. Initially it was used under the new name Karussell from 1967 as a low-price label for less prominent artists and new editions of the pop and jazz segment . Later, however, artists such as B. James Last under Carousel.

With EUROPA , maritim and KIOSK , Karussell has been one of the four dominant labels for radio plays since the 1980s .

In September / October 2006 the company logo was changed after more than two decades.

On the sub-label Spectrum Music , Karussell also sells music compilations by international artists, the rights of which are owned by Mercury Records , among others .
