Jan Zygmunt Skrzynecki

Jan Zygmunt Skrzynecki , also Jan Boncza Skrzynecki (born February 8, 1786 in Żebrak near Siedlce , † January 12, 1860 in Krakow ) was a Polish general.

Life

Jan Zygmunt Skrzynecki studied mathematics in Lemberg by name , joined the Polish army in 1806, distinguished himself several times in the campaigns from 1812 to 1814 and, as a colonel, was in command of a Polish infantry regiment in 1815 .

When the Revolution broke out on November 29, 1830, he placed himself at the disposal of the Grand Duke and followed him at the head of his regiment, but returned to Warsaw on December 3 to join the national cause, was appointed Brigadier General by Commander-in-Chief Radziwiłł and commanded him the Battle of Grochów (February 25, 1831) a division with distinction. After Radziwill resignation to in-chief appointed, he devoted himself while zealously the necessary new organization, but delayed in the hope of an intervention of foreign powers, the Polish approach to late March.

Under his command, the Poles defeated General Caspar von Geismar's Russian army detachments on February 19th near Wawer and on March 31st the VI. Infantry corps of General von Rosen at Dębe Wielkie , Skrzynecki, however, failed to pursue the victory. It was only when the Russians tried to unite their armed forces in the Siedlce area on April 8 that he attacked the Rosen and Pahlen corps in the battle of Iganie on April 10 , but then remained inactive for some time.

The unfortunate outcome of the Battle of Ostroleka (May 26), which he was largely to blame for allowing a Russian position to be attacked by individual attacks and not by a coordinated approach, forced him to return to Warsaw. Here he pursued a reform of the government in order to weaken the influence of the patriotic clubs, but again missed the opportunity to attack the enemies who had been weakened by cholera after Diebitsch's death .

The Reichstag therefore sent a commission of inquiry to the camp in front of Bolimów on August 10 , whereupon it resigned the supreme command. Since then he has stayed with the partisan corps of General Różycki and on September 22nd came with this to the territory of the Free State of Krakow , from where he went to Galicia . He later lived in Prague until he went to Belgium in 1839 , where he assumed supreme command of the army, but had to be made available as a division general as a result of complaints from Russia, Austria and Prussia. Since then he was privatized in Brussels for a long time and died on January 12, 1860 in Krakow.
