Jana Bellin (born Jana Malypetrová on December 9, 1947 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is an English chess master of Czech origin.

Life

Bellin received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) in 1969 and became the Women's Grand Master (WGM) in 1982 . Her tournament successes include the titles of Czechoslovak women's champion in 1965 and 1967 and the British women's champion in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1977 (after play-off) and 1979. She took part in three interzonal tournaments for women and took part 1973 in Menorca and 1976 in Roosendaal each in sixth place, 1979 in Rio de Janeiro eleventh place.

Bellin has a doctorate in medicine and specializes in anesthesia . She works in intensive care medicine at Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich , England.

She is also the chair of the FIDE medical commission , which oversees the doping control of chess players.

Jana Bellin was married to the International Master William Hartston , then to Grand Master Tony Miles , and then to the International Master Robert Bellin . The marriage with Bellin resulted in two sons (* 1989 and 1991).

She is the granddaughter of Jan Malypetr , who was Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia between 1932 and 1935 .

Bellin's Elo rating (as of October 2019) is 2028, and her highest rating of 2340 was in January and July 1987.

Bellin took part in 15 women's chess Olympiads , in 1966 and 1969 with the Czechoslovak selection, 1972, 1976 to 1996 and 2006 with the English team. Her best results were a third place in 1969 and a second place in 1976 . Bellin also took part with England in the 1992 European Women's Team Championship.

Club chess

In the British Four Nations Chess League , Jana Bellin played for the British Chess Magazine team from 1994 to 1999 , from 1999 to 2012 and again in the 2017/18 season for The ADs (2000 to 2002 under the name Beeson Gregory ), who through the merger of British Chess Magazine with Index-IT emerged (in the 2001/02 season, however, it was only used in the second team). In 2001 Bellin won the 4NCL.
