Janet Wright (born March 8, 1945 in Farnborough , Hampshire , England , † November 14, 2016 in Vancouver ) was a Canadian actress in theater, film and television.

Life

Wright's family emigrated to Canada the year after she was born, where she grew up as the oldest of four siblings in Saskatoon . With her sister Susan she founded the Persephone Theater there in 1974 . She has made numerous theater appearances in Canada, including the Stratford Festival in Ontario . In Toronto in 1995 she played the role of King Lear . She began her film and television career in the early 1970s. She played one of her first film roles in Robert Altman's Western McCabe & Mrs. Miller , where she was seen as Eunice on the side of Warren Beatty and Julie Christie . Until 2014 she was regularly seen on the big screen, albeit only in minor supporting roles. Her other film appearances include the role of Ethel Shatford in Der Sturm , Coach Olga in Rollerball and Grandma Kemp in Sister Hearts - Ramona's Wild World .

Wright was known to the Canadian television audience primarily for her many television roles. In addition to guest roles in Canadian series productions such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn , Strandpiraten and Ein Mountie in Chicago , she was largely known for her portrayal of Emma Leroy in the hit sitcom Corner Gas , which she played in 107 episodes between 2004 and 2009. She was also seen between 1999 and 2001 as Constance in the miniseries Rescuers of Redwall . For her work in Canadian film and television productions, she has received the Genie Award and two Gemini Awards .

Wright was a second marriage and had three children.
